In college he quarterbacked the option-oriented Buffaloes to a pair of Top-10 regular season finishes in 1992 and 1994, as well as wins in the Aloha Bowl and the Fiesta Bowl. He is known for The Miracle at Michigan where he threw a Hail Mary in the closing seconds to beat the Michigan Wolverines.
